Euromillions April 2004
Briton wins more than 25.5 million euros
April 9, 2004 was a real lucky day for Marion Richardson. On this day, the 57-year-old Briton cracked the Jackpot of the Euromillions on the ninth draw. Because no other player had chosen the lucky numbers 1, 4, 10, 19, 23 as well as Lucky 2 and Lucky 8, the winnings about 25.556.285 euros (which was then 16.7 million British pounds) went to her.
The divorced former postal clerk picked winning numbers on the basis of the birthdays of her five children. When she called her youngest so to tell the good news, he thought of a joke. Marion Richardson announced that she wanted to go shopping in the famous boutiques at Rodeo Drive of Los Angeles just like Julia Roberts who played the main character in her favorite movie, Pretty Woman.
Before the trip to the United States, however, the winner living in the North East of England in the municipality of Winlaton wanted to buy a new carpet for her parents. The jackpot was not cracked on the other four Euromillions draws in the same month, which took place on the 2nd, 16th, 23rd and 30th of April.
